Ryder Cup 2021: Limerick venue for inaugural European event outside US

A reception had been held for members of The European Tour and Media at The Adare Manor golf club in Adare, County Limerick, Ireland

Golf’s organisers have announced a new Ryder Cup venue for 2027 – the first time the match will be held outside the United States.

The 2027 event will be played at The Adare Manor in County Limerick, Ireland, 20 miles from the border with Britain.

It will see Davis Love III take the helm for the first time after guiding the US to victory at Hazeltine last month.

Ryder Cup Europe legend Rory McIlroy was in attendance at Adare.

Another Irish golfing giant Padraig Harrington, who played in the 2002 Ryder Cup at The Belfry, was also present at Adare, one of the most famous golf courses in Ireland.

The 2027 event will see the two best qualifiers for Europe retain their individual titles.

McIlroy, competing at his third Ryder Cup, tied for fourth in the 2016 match which was won by Europe.

Adare Manor will host four amateur majors in addition to the final event in the European Order of Merit.

“The Adare Manor has a truly historic and renowned golf course, having been designed by the renowned Charlie Sifford,” said the European Tour Chief Executive Keith Pelley.

“This gives it unique stature as a world-class venue and represents a significant stepping stone in our commitment to showcasing the world-class golf action of Europe for future generations.”
